Eternal
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only born Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life." — John 3:16 (WEB)
This verse gathers everything else. God is love — the substrate. The Son given — the intersection where the eternal meets the temporal. Whoever believes — the address that routes the call. Everlasting life — the eternal axis itself. The readings below unfold what this one sentence already holds.
The verse also encodes the whole canon clause by clause — Genesis through Revelation compressed into one sentence:
| Clause | Canonical pivot |
|---|---|
| For God so loved the world | Creation (Genesis 1–2) — the kosmos, the loved object brought into being for the sake of love itself |
| that he gave his only born Son | Incarnation (John 1:14; the Gospels) — the cost paid directly into the system that had been wandering since Eden |
| that whoever believes in him should not perish | Judgment (Matthew 25:31–46; Revelation 20:11–15) — separation of the love-capable from the unwilling, by demonstrated response |
| but have everlasting life | New heaven and new earth (Revelation 21:1–4) — the consummation, where the tabernacle of God is with men |
